BIM
Building Information Modeling

What is BIM (Building Information Modeling)?

BIM is an intelligent 3D model-based process that equips architecture, engineering, and construction professionals with the insight and tools to more efficiently plan, design, construct and manage buildings and infrastructure. BIM is a collaboration software program that provides a repository for each discipline to add digital, facility-specific knowledge into a single shared dynamic model, typically online. The most obvious feature is that it develops drawings in three dimensions.

What should be cared?

It is likely that virtually every security professional knows something about computer-assisted design or drafting. BIM will be increasingly important in the coming years and it’s possible it will forever change how some of us do our work, especially security engineers, manufacturers, vendors and integrators.

Becoming a Global Standard

“Finland and Norway were first to set standards, followed by procurement policies from the UK, Netherlands and Italy; and most recently joint government-industry initiatives from France, Germany and Spain.”

Create Business opportunities with BIM files

Designers working on BIM projects can only include those manufacturers whose products have been authored as BIM objects. We need manufacturers to provide us with BIM objects.

But just few CCTV manufacturers are ready, including IDIS.

Coming to vertical markets

BIM is already a mandatory requirement for some federal government construction projects and is gradually emerging at the local governmental levels as well in the world. Although it was primarily developed to be a tool for new construction and major renovation projects, it is expected that over time new functions will be added that will provide dynamic capabilities to support ongoing building operations, including security, fire protection and life safety—long after construction is completed.

IDIS BIM Families for Autodesk Revit

IDIS BIM Families is a set of interactive 3D CAD security products for use with the Autodesk® Revit® software. If you are working in Autodesk Revit, you can use IDIS BIM Families to place products directly in your building layout and integrate surveillance system planning into your Revit project. In addition to providing the detailed meta-data required for IDIS BIM Camera Families with FoV (Field of View), they will let you visualize coverage for each camera to assure those critical areas are covered and blind spots avoided. Surveillance Designers or Consultants can immediately access BIM Families information, select the desired mounting option, see the FoV and generate a scheduled report of all installed components.
